I earned my Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences at the University of Florence, Italy, in 2018, and then I spent 2.5 years as postdoctoral researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, based in Pisa, Italy. In 2022, I moved to the publishing industry by joining Elsevier as Scientific Managing Editor for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering journals. In this role, I assessed scientific articles, handled the peer-review process, and offered tailored transfer offers to rejected authors with a focus on customer experience. My growing interest in research integrity and publishing ethics later led me to become a member of the Elsevier’s ethics team (2023) where I have been promoted to Publishing Ethics Expert in June 2024.
My experience at Elsevier has granted me great editorial, publishing and management skills, and particularly in the last two years I have become expert in handling and coordinating ethics investigations of different complexity, including special issue and full journal audits, and in providing recommendations for addressing potential ethical risks and corrections to the records. Gathering and analysing scientific, editorial and publishing data, navigating policies and guidelines, and being expert in using different software and platforms have been crucial skills for such purposes.
A major task of my role has been managing communications with relevant stakeholders, such as editors, publishers and societies, for bringing them together to resolve ethical issues and for disseminating research integrity and publishing ethics best practices both internally and externally to the company. I am very interested in cross-team collaborations and I have indeed joined different working groups aiming at improving editorial workflows, IT tools for research integrity, ethics policies and guidelines.
I am now looking forward to making a new step in my career and I would like to move to a research manager or research integrity officer position at a non-profit institution.
