While working in Spain and in the UK, my areas of research were non-tuberculous mycobacteria in HIV patients and viral hepatitis. Since coming to India, my research has focused on the cascade of care of HIV patients, tuberculosis, cryptococcosis, and the epidemiology of antimicrobial resistance in developing countries. I have been the principal investigator on the vast majority of my articles, including study design, data collection and database design, statistical analysis, and article writing.

After obtaining my medical degree in Oviedo (Spain), I spent one year as a medical volunteer in Peru with an NGO. While working in a hospital ship giving service to isolated villages along the Amazon river, I discovered my passion for Infectious Diseases.
I moved to Barcelona for my General Internal Medicine Residency in the Department of Infectious Diseases of Vall Hebron Hospital (in Spain, there is no specialty in Infectious Diseases). The training in the Infectious Disease Department included rotations in the Infectious Disease ward (mainly management of HIV/AIDS and opportunistic infections, tuberculosis and community acquired infections), Microbiology, endocarditis and intravascular catheter infections, infections in immunocompromised patients (solid organ transplants, Hematology and Oncology), blood stream infections, antimicrobial stewardship and infection-related consultations from other departments (Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiovascular Surgery…).
After completing my training in Barcelona, I moved the UK to study Tropical Medicine and Public Health in Liverpool and I worked as a Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases in Manchester.
Since 2009, I have been working in India as the Head of Department of Infectious Diseases of Bathalapalli Hospital. The department is a referral centre for people living with HIV and patients with TB in the South of Andhra Pradesh.
